Description
Mel Brooks, a legendary comedy dynamo, can’t seem to open his mouth without something funny coming out. Beginning at age 14 as a “tummler” performing audience warmup schtick in Borscht Belt Jewish resorts, he moved on to phenomenal success as a comedy recording artist partnered with Carl Reiner (The Two Thousand Year Old Man); as a television writer and creator (Your Show of Shows, Caesar’s Hour, Get Smart); as movie director and screenwriter (The Producers, The Twelve Chairs, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein); as producer (The Elephant Man); and as pop song craftsman (the alluring “Springtime for Hitler”).
Only twenty (20) fine art prints of MEL BROOKS were produced for this edition. Each hand-numbered print is signed and hand-titled by the artist.
This portrait of Brooks by Drew Friedman is being issued to commemorate Mel’s 100th birthday on June 28, 2026. The work was originally created for Friedman’s 2017 book Schtick Figures. We can’t say it’s Mel in his prime, because when has Brooks ever not been in his prime?
