Description

This formal wedding portrait of Herman (actor Fred Gwynne) and Lily Munster (Yvonne DeCarlo) by Drew Friedman was created to commemorate their marriage, which took place 160 years ago.

According to Munsters lore, Herman was 150 years old when the TV sitcom The Munsters debuted in 1964. Herman was created (not born) in Germany by a Dr. Frankenstein, and would soon be adopted by a family in England with the surname “Munster.” Herman had a twin brother, Charlie.

Lily, nee Lady Lillian Dracula, was said to be “around” 137 years old in 1964. She was born in Transylvania, one of two daughters of Count (Sam) Dracula, a.k.a. Grandpa (played by Al Lewis). Lily had a younger brother, a werewolf named Lester.

In 1865, Lily met and fell in love with Herman. After their marriage, they moved to America, accompanied by Grandpa. Their only child, Eddie (Butch Patrick), was born in 1956.

The Munsters ran nationally on CBS network TV from 1964 to 1966, and has continued in syndication ever since, attracting a devoted following over six decades.
